EARLY RISERS

The first habit on the list is rising with the sun because so many successful individuals credit being an early riser to their success.

YouTube influencer Amy Landino starts her day at 5 a.m. with a 16oz glass of lemon water. During these early morning hours, she writes, meditates, brainstorms and works on things she wouldn’t have time to do otherwise. Amy is a professional speaker, the host of her award-winning YouTube channel #AmyTV, author of the book Vlog Like a Boss and recently the host of her podcast Detail Therapy. How does she have time to accomplish all of this? She incorporates most of these valuable habits of highly successful people into her routine.

For some of us, starting the day earlier means time to ourselves before the rest of the house wakes up. It’s also a useful time to work on your side hustle. Early risers tend to be more productive with their time which is most likely a reason they are successful.

ROUTINE

In addition to waking up early, successful individuals have made a habit out of their daily routine. A routine means you streamline your day instead of wasting time trying to decide what you need to do.

Your daily routine should involve productive work but also some self-care. Decide what you value and make those a priority. Using techniques such as time-blocking to make room for what is important to you.

Successful entrepreneurs have streamlined their daily routines to get the most of their 24 hours.

VISUALIZATION

A common practice among dreamers and doers is they take time during the day to visualize their success. Visualization trains your mindset to be in a state of success and to manifest it. If you already see yourself succeeding then it’s just a matter of time before you get there. This technique is also a great way to reduce stress and anxiety.

Oprah Winfrey and other important figures are known to practice visualization. This can be done either by sitting still with your eyes closed and picturing your vision or creating a vision board.

MEDITATION

Many highly successful people meditate as part of their daily routine. In his book The Miracle Morning, Hal Elrod explains how meditating for 10-15 minutes in the first hour of the morning has helped him manifest his success. Arianna Huffington, Oprah Winfrey, and Russell Simmons are just a few highly successful people who have talked about their meditating habits.

Why is everyone talking about the positive benefits of meditation? It’s a destresser, which can help with mental wellbeing by being still. Meditating also provides a moment in your day for reflection.

To meditate, find a quiet comfortable place to sit or lie down. Close your eyes and focus on your breathing or repeat a mantra in your mind. Most people think meditating means quieting your mind but it’s normal to have thoughts pop into your head. Acknowledge them and let them go without reacting. Do this for 5-10 minutes to start and build up your endurance from there.

HEALTHY EATING

Taking care of yourself is a huge part of the success and consuming healthy foods is half of it. Consuming nutrient dense food that will nurture your body will help you focus, maintain your energy, and regulate your moods. As a result, you will become more productive and a better leader.

Focus on eating whole foods with minimal processing and no added sugar. Things like whole grains, nuts and seeds, fruits and vegetables, beans and legumes and lean proteins will keep you nourished and healthy. GROWTH MINDSET

Mindset is everything when it comes to success. Countless self-help books have been written on the subject to help you shift into that mindset of abundance.

If you listen to successful people speak about how they got there, they always mention failure came before success. The difference between them and many of us are they persisted until they succeeded. They have a vision and know exactly why they are doing it. Highly successful people are also not afraid of taking smart risks. Lastly, they see opportunity in everything!

DIGITAL DO NOT DISTURB

A habit I’ve identified among successful entrepreneurs is they separate their time spent focusing on their projects and helping other people. For example, they might only answer emails and check their smartphone at certain times of the day. This allows them to work undisturbed during the hours of the day they choose to focus on their work. In other words, their time is more important than yours (sounds harsh but it’s the truth).

To train yourself not to check your phone or email every 10 minutes, put your phone in another room while you work! Or, if you can’t part with it, set it on “Do Not Disturb” for the amount of time you need to complete your project.

If you’ve ever complained that there isn’t enough time in the day to accomplish what you want, then this tip might be for you.

SURROUNDED BY SUCCESSFUL PEOPLE

This is probably one of my favorite habits of highly successful people because it can be so powerful to your mindset. The saying that “you are who your friends are” couldn’t be truer in this situation.

Surrounding yourself with people that elevate you pushes you to grow by influencing you in a positive way. If your spending your time with entrepreneurs you will gain business insights and information that will help you better your success. In addition, networking with the right people can also present unique opportunities.

If meeting these people in person intimidates you, try connecting with them through social media. Some of my best connections with business bloggers have happened online and I can’t wait to meet them in person someday.

JOURNALLING

Similar to visualization and meditation, a self-care habit adopted by many highly successful people is some form of journaling. There are several ways to write including brain dumping, the 5-minute journal, bullet journals, traditional journals, gratitude journals, etc…

Why do they work? Writing is a good way to reflect on your accomplishments, problem solve and document your life. Hal Elrod wrote every day in a hardbound book for each year and reflected on his accomplishments at the end of the year. Oprah Winfrey writes five things she is grateful for each day in her gratitude journal.

Whether it’s to nurture your mindset of abundance or remove toxic thoughts from your mind, journalling is a habit we should all adopt.

SAYING NO

Lastly, a valuable habit of highly successful people is there ability to say no. There’s only so much time in a day, and being only one person we need to prioritize what is important to US. The difference between a regular joe and a highly successful person is that they say no A LOT. They are aware of their goals and make the decision to focus on reaching them without distraction.

Time is valuable. Next time you don’t have time for what someone is asking you to do, just say no and don’t apologize for it (unless it’s your boss, then your stuck).
