Beginning February 1st, 2018, I began my 101 Things in 1001 Days challenge. Today marks the three-month update since officially starting, and three months since this blog went live! Yay!
I CELEBRATED MY 30th BIRTHDAY!
During the month of April I celebrated my 30th birthday, officially went vegetarian again, began to make more sustainable changes in my life and focused heavily on creating consistent content for Caffeine and Conquer.
For my 30th my parents surprised me by bringing all my siblings, my soon-to-be brother-in-law and nephew to Ottawa for lunch. We traditionally go to Red Lobster when a family member hits a major age milestone – the last time was when I turned 21. Even though I had declared to my family that I was going vegetarian again, I found Red Lobster had no vegetarian options on their menu, and I wasn’t going to pay the same as a dish with meat and have it removed. So I enjoyed my last taste of meat that day. I ordered the linguine with crab meat and pigged out on their biscuits. Yum!
FOCUSING MORE ON SUSTAINABILITY
During April I started to focus more on creating sustainable and eco-friendly actions in my life. When I started this blog I was writing a series in which I reviewed current beauty and personal hygiene products I use. Maybe it was because I was photographing my products, but by the third post I came to the realization that these consumer choices of mine were creating a lot of garbage – some of it was recyclable and some weren’t. Even when I recycle I still feel like I’m adding to the problem! So I’ve changed my routine and am now focusing on refillable products, biodegradable materials and reusing packaging.
IMPLEMENTING CONTENT PLANNING
Lastly, I wanted to up my blogging strategy last month. Using Google Calendar, I planned a months worth of blog content and decided I would publish every Wednesday, Friday and Sunday. I was able to stick with this schedule and am now planning new blogging goals for May.

Buy a Reusable Coffee Mug
I frequent Second Cup a lot, especially when I’m out getting cat food at Walmart or some groceries at Loblaws. I had been meaning to get a reusable take-out cup for some time. The one I previously had was tall and skinny and I didn’t enjoy using it. So I finally found a nice ceramic reusable cup from Starbucks that fits a small 12oz drink.

I recently discovered that there are podcasts about blogging, making money blogging and other related topics. I started listening to Just Keep Blogging which offers encouragement and inspiration for bloggers to just keep going. The three episodes I have listened to so far are:

Cashew-less Vegan Queso by Minimalist Baker (This recipe did not work out at all. If you followed my Instagram story from that day you would have seen that it was not orange but brown!)
Cauliflower, Sweet Potato, Chickpea Curry by Occasionally Eggs
Kale and Bean Quesadillas from the Martha Stewart cookbook Clean Slate (I loved this quesadillas recipe because it was made with simple ingredients and easy to make. I actually baked the quesadillas rather than pan fry, which makes it healthier because you’re using less oil).
