Daiya Dairy-Free Gluten-Free Pizza Review

Continuing with my trend of vegan, dairy-free food posts from last week, I have to share my experience trying another alternative to animal meat and dairy. Vegan Daiya pizza!

RELATEDDaiya Dairy-Free Yogurt Review

I picked up a box of Daiya’s Supreme Pizza from my local Loblaw’s grocery store and couldn’t wait to try it. I was both excited to try it and worried I wouldn’t like the cheese. But I baked it, and devoured it! The pizza was amazing.

My Thoughts on Daiya Supreme Pizza. This was the first time trying a vegan cheese after many years! I used to find them disgusting but Daiya changed that for me! A great vegan cheese that melts. #vegan #vegetarian #veganpizza

“Don’t judge a book by its cover”

I was a little worried about trying the pizza, hoping I had not wasted my money (It was a splurge at $10.99 at Loblaws). Years ago, I had tried vegan shredded cheese and was revolted by the flavour. I had given up then instead of trying different vegan brands. Huge mistake!

I have read mixed reviews about Daiya cheese. Many vegans love it, however, others complain about a not-so-appetizing aftertaste. I am on the former side. Having tried their Alfredo Style Cheezy Mac and now their pizza, I am very happy with their products.

The Main Event – Daiya Supreme Pizza!

Baked in the oven at 475F for 15 minutes, the pizza came out hot and crispy (just how I like it). Topped with Daiya Mozza style shreds, tomato basil sauce, Beyond Meat meatless sausage, peppers, red onions and mushrooms, the pizza was delicious. I was surprised to see that the cheese softens and melts like cows cheese. This was also the first time I had tried a meat alternative from Beyond Meat, which claims their products “looks, cooks and satisfies like beef”. I can endorse that statement as the meatless sausage was not dry and tasted how a fatty piece of meat should taste.

Like many of Daiya’s products, they are expensive processed comfort foods and should be enjoyed in moderation.
