Beginning February 1st, 2018, I began my 101 Things in 1001 Days challenge. Today marks 150 days since starting this challenge and five months since Caffeine and Conquer went live! The fifth month is also full of new beginnings.
As I mentioned in my previous update, I have been reflecting a lot on my list. When I wrote it in February my priorities were different. I was going along with the career path I had set for myself based on the programs I chose to study – history and museum studies.
I can’t explain why I have very little self-motivation to pursue that anymore. It was extremely appealing while I was in school. Now that it’s been a year since graduating I don’t have the motivation to fight my way into a competitive field that can be unstable in terms of funding and employment contracts.
A large part of my 101 Things in 1001 Days list was created with that life path in mind. It no longer makes sense to me to include goals related to past priorities that I will probably never accomplish.
As most of you know if you followed some of my other posts, I have made self-employment through my various business ambitions my new career goals. Hence the title of this post – New Beginnings.
I reevaluated my life goals and changed the 101 Things in 1001 Days list to reflect that!
It became stressful having a list full of what looked like failures in my life (eg. get employment in the heritage sector). With the changes I made to the list, the challenge is fun again and I look forward to completing career goals!

Take a Class
Last month I participated in a free 10-day online course called “10k Traffic Challenge“, hosted by It’s a Lovely Life. While it didn’t get my 10k visitors, I was able to connect with other bloggers with the same goal. The course works by increasing engagement and reach through connecting with other bloggers. For example, I gained about a hundred Instagram followers in 10 days. If you know how Instagram’s algorithm works, it’s something like the more engagement you get on a post the more people Instagram will show it too. So the course is great for increasing engagement which then gets you seen more.
The most useful tools I took away from that course was creating an opt-in for my email list and getting out of my comfort zone by vlogging.

Read 20 New Books (2/20)
I finished Pachinko by Min Jin Lee last month. I originally planned on reading it to participate in the Girly Book Club in April, but I didn’t complete the novel in time. Despite taking longer to finish it, I gave Pachinko 5 of 5 stars in my review!
This book was truly amazing. Covering four generations of a single Korean family from 1910-1989. They face issues of identity as immigrants in Japan, racism, discrimination and hardship. Highly recommend.
