Ole Henriksen PHAt Glow Facial Review

I love receiving free skincare products and even more when it’s from a brand that’s sent me products in the past! Last month I received and tested Ole Henriksen’s new PHAt Glow Facial Mask and I’m here to share my thoughts on that. This is the second product I test from the brand who is killing it with the chemical exfoliating skincare lines!

OLE HENRIKSEN RELEASES A NEW FACIAL MASK!

PHAt Glow Ingredients

Ole Henriksen’s latest product is a facial mask that contains the ingredients PHA, Nordic birch sap and pink bentonite clay. It’s formulated to target dark spots, fine lines, and wrinkles, pores and dryness.

PHAs: Also know as Polyhydroxy Acid, PHA is a gentler AHA alternative that is more suitable for sensitive skin. Because the molecules are larger than AHA’s they don’t penetrate the skin as well and don’t irritate it. With regular use, PHAs even the skins tone by targeting dark spots and skins texture by sloughing off dead skin cells.

Nordic Birch Sap: This is the first time I heard of this ingredient and I love it! Nordic Birch Sap is hydrating and nourishing to the skin.

Pink Bentonite Clay: Common in many masks, the PHAt Glow Facial contains pink bentonite clay which gives it its color, refines pores and removes deep impurities.

A Clean at Sephora product, the mask also doesn’t contain ingredients such as SLS, SLES, parabens, oxybenzone and more.

WHY YOU MAY NEED A CHEMICAL EXFOLIATOR

Compared to physical exfoliating products, chemical exfoliators are gentler on the skin, causing less longterm damage.

Physical exfoliators are often made using grainy ingredients like rice or walnut to help scrub away dead skin cells. Over time, these ingredients, especially ground walnut, can cause microtears in the skin. This can result in dark spots and skin sensitivities in the future.

They also have the added benefits of possibly helping acne-prone skin, which is why I use them!

HOW TO USE THE PHAT GLOW FACIAL

To use the PHAt Glow Facial Mask apply it to your clean dry face. It will be pink when you apply, however, you’re going to massage it into your skin until the mask turns a frothy white.

Relax and let the mask do its work for 15 minutes then wash it off with a damp washcloth.

It’s recommended you use the mask twice a week, morning or night, for the full benefits.

PHAT GLOW FACIAL REVIEW

I’ve had mixed results with this product.

The Good: I love the subtle smell and would wear it on my face just for that. It goes on thick because you apply it to dry skin but it spreads well so that’s also a win. After washing off the mask my face feels clean, exfoliated and is definitely brightened.

The Bad: When I first started using it, I noticed a slight burning sensation around my nose and cheek area during the first 5 minutes of the facial. Once that passes the mask feels almost cooling. Since chemical exfoliators sometimes “tingle” when you use them I’m not sure if this is normal for this product. It’s made with PHAs and isn’t supposed to be as irritating so I’m kind of disappointed in that.

MY FINAL THOUGHTS

Overall I love the smell, the hydrating benefits of the Nordic Birch Sap and the exfoliating results, however, my skins reaction tells me this might not be the facial for me. I also noticed I get better results with AHAs so will stick with that once I run out of this product. This is not to say it’s a bad facial mask, it’s more a case of what works for some doesn’t work for others. While it doesn’t work for my skin type it might still be beneficial for yours. It’s worth testing out!
