What I Eat in a Day (A Vegetarian’s Confession)

I see so many bloggers and Instagrammers share what they eat in a day and I always enjoyed that glimpse into their lives. So, I wanted to share what I eat with you guys!

I like to compare how I eat to other peoples daily eating routines. I don’t have the best eating habits. My meals aren’t structured so that I am eating breakfast, lunch, and dinner at the same time each day. I also eat a lot of junk and don’t consume enough water. So seeing others’ “what I eat in a day” posts are inspiring to me and encourages me to make better food choices throughout the day.

For example, I’ve really been trying to kick the soda habit. It’s tough! Soda has no nutritional value, is horrible for your teeth, throat, and stomach, and contains high fructose corn syrup. I buy a box of 12 cans, drink 1-2 a day, and by the end of the box I’m telling myself that this is the last. I usually last a day or two and then I’m back at the store picking up more.

Sharing what I eat in a day means I have to be completely transparent about my eating habits and face the music. I’m actually shy about sharing this, which is weird.



Breakfast (12:00 pm)

To start the day I had strawberry yogurt with fresh strawberries, granola, and sweetened cacao nibs. I also had a cup of coffee with coconut coffee enhancer.



Lunch (7:00 pm)

I had a really late lunch. I decided to go downtown today to pick up some solid shampoo from Lush, some vegetarian meat alternatives from Market Organics and then some cat litter on my way home. I left around 3:30 pm and didn’t get back home until 6:00 pm (I use public transportation!)

For lunch, I had leftover Barley Stew with Root Vegetables I made from an online recipe by Greener Ideal. I also had a can of Dr. Pepper over some ice.



Snack (8:30 pm)


SeaSnax Original. If you haven’t tried these yet your missing out! They have the satisfaction of chips but are so light. Because they are heavily packaged I recommend roasting your own seaweed with olive oil and sea salt at home, which is what I will be doing in the future.



Dinner (11:00pm)

Pizza Pizza now offers vegan cheese! My pizza is topped with dairy-free cheese, broccoli, mushrooms, and green olives. I had a lot of leftover to enjoy the next couple days.




As you can see I always start the day off good and then it goes downhill from there. I’m also a carbohydrate junkie! I will say though that I do not get to enjoy the pizza every day and usually treat myself to takeout when I get a top up in my bank account!

Next time I publish a “What I Eat in a Day” post there will be a salad, I swear! (Maybe)

    Great post! I always like to see what other people are doing food-wise – it's so interesting. I can't really relate to the soda habit (never was a fan, even as a kid), but you could try making your own! Sometimes for special occasions, I make a simple sugar syrup (and infuse it with lavender or another kind of spice/herb) and add it to sparkling water (and sometimes a bit of juice/lemonade). And also gin, but that's optional,lol.

    I also feel like you would really enjoy Anna Jones' cookbooks (I have A Modern Way to Cook, and A Modern Way to Eat). Every recipe I've tried from her has just been phenomenal.

    Anyway, my meals from yesterday:

    Breakfast: Chickpea pancake with cilantro/cumin/garam masala/tumeric/herbamare topped with a bit of mozza and chopped kale/spinach chard. (So pretty, but my phone was dead and I didn't get a picture!) Decaf coffee with cream/cardamom/cinnamon/a bit of maple sugar.

    Lunch: Nothing, because I was doing errands around town – just a fruit-nut bar to keep my blood sugar from making me do unnecessary impulse grocery shopping, lol.

    Supper: Lemon Chard Aloo (Anna Jones recipe!). Essentially spiced potatoes and onions with a bunch of greens (and cilantro to top!).

    My snacking habits at night are the. WORST. Especially during Netflix, or after partaking of some 420, haha. Last night I had Bits n' Bites, and a couple of the two-bite brownies. I'm trying to train myself to make popcorn instead, but my favorite stoned snacks keep coming on sale, lol. One day! (Also always herbal tea of some kind before bed.)

    It's all a process and I feel that when you're doing the best you can in other areas of your life everyday, it's alright to have some unhealthy habits (like pop or salty highly processed snacks). 🙂

    Hey Sarah. I'm happy you liked it! I looked up the Anna Jones cookbooks and decided to check them out at the library. Any recipe you recommend I test out first?

    Also your pancakes sound amazing. I love it when foods I grew up eating sweet are altered into savory versions. For example, I make an oatmeal with spinach, mushrooms, rosemary, chili peppers and poached eggs – It's delicious!
