How to Use Quizzes to Grow your Email List!

I’ve been blogging for about half a year now and have picked up an incredible amount of information along the way. For example, did you know that a lot of new bloggers tend to forget to set up a mail subscription system? That was me until a couple of months ago. I’ve learned a lot about lead generation and the strategies used to gain new subscribers, which is why I want to show you how you can use quizzes to grow your email list!

Interact is an easy to use quiz builder that helps you grow your email list. A couple of weeks ago the company approached me about testing out their software. I had never used quizzes on my website before, and I never considered them in a way that would help gain subscribers. So obviously I said yes, I have to try this out for myself!

Create an engaging way to grow your email list!

What I love about Interact quizzes is how engaging they are. Traditionally, most lead generation strategies involve an opt-in or something of value in return for their subscription. As a blogger though, putting together those opt-ins is time-consuming! What this software does differently is providing a fun and engaging quiz before even asking for an email sign up.

I also loved how easy they were to create and customize. I ended up using one of their templates as my test run and plan on tweaking it and growing from there. Interact also allows you to build a quiz from scratch, which is great for strong branding and reaching your target audience.

Follow these easy steps to create your own Interact quiz!

Getting Started: Signing Up

Sign up for an Interact account by choosing the right plan for you.

Creating Your First Quiz

Now that you’re registered you are ready to create your first quiz! (If you don’t like written instructions watch the video below, which was provided by Interact Quiz Collective!)

Once you log in, select the option “Create New Quiz“. From there you have some options: you can create a custom quiz from scratch or use one of Interact templates. To start with I recommend customizing a template, but it’s completely up to you. For the purpose of this tutorial, I’m going to use a template.

When you use a template Interact provides you with a list of industries to help you find the right quiz for your target audience. When I created my quiz I selected Blogging, Business, Coaching, Copywriting, and Marketing.

Now that you have chosen your industry, Interact will ask you about the type of quiz you would like to build. They provide three options: Assessment, Personality and Scored.

  • Assessment: Great for testing knowledge. Each question will have one right answer.
  • Personality: The classical personality quiz. Each quiz taker receives a personality type as a result.
  • Scored: Each answer has a score value which then corresponds to ranged results at the end.

After you choose the type of quiz you would like, Interact will present you with a list of ready-made templates. You can preview each quiz by clicking on it, or go straight to editing the quiz by selecting “Use This Quiz” under your option.




Designing Your Quiz: Customizing Templates + Branding

Now you will be entering the screen where you can customize, brand, integrate with your mail service and more.

If you’re going to use a template, I recommend you change the colors and fonts to match your website’s, as well as add your logo. To change the colors and font type, simply select “Styles” in the left side menu. To add your company or website logo, click “Edit” beside “Branding” in the left side menu.

To edit the quiz’s questions and answers to better suit your target audience use the “Content” tab.

From here you can make changes to each page of the quiz, such as adding your own images, call to action, color and text changes!

I recommend adding a link to a relevant blog post for each quiz result to encourage the quiz taker to browse your website for more information. 

Integrating Your Quiz With Your Email Service

One of the best things about Interact quizzes is that you can integrate them with your email service and collect leads through email subscriptions.

Once a quiz taker finishes with the questions, they will be brought to a signup page where they can leave their first name and email address (this can be customized). After they submit their information they will then be able to see the results of their quiz!

To enable email captures, simply turn “Enable lead capture and data collection for my quiz” to “On”.

Publish Your Quiz + Choose How You Will Share It

Once you’ve customized your template to match your branding, with suitable questions and responses for your target audience and integrated with your email service, don’t forget to preview the quiz before publishing.

When you’re comfortable with your quiz hit “Publish” at the top of the screen and you’re ready to share and embed it on your website!

The final step in creating and sharing your quiz is making it available for people to engage with! Immediately after you hit publish you will be brought to a screen that gives you sharing options.

Interact recommends using a Popup and Announcement Bar on your website. You can also embed a quiz into a relevant blog post and share on social media to gain more leads.

If your not comfortable with adding coding to your webpage, Interact has made it easy to integrate the quiz on your website with the Interact Quiz Embed WordPress plugin.


That’s it! That is all you have to do to set up your own quiz and start collecting leads to grow your email list!

You’re all set to provide your target audience with an engaging way to interact with and subscribe to your website!

You can track your lead results and quiz interaction using Interact’s analytics. What I love about this is you can customize your email sequence based on these results. This is important for nurturing your subscribers based on their interests and hopefully convert these leads to customers!

Your analytics also helps you determine how well your strategy is working.

I’ll use my analytics as an example.

In a one week period, I had 183 views of my quiz, but only 15 people started it, resulting in 8 email subscriptions. I would like to see more people starting my quiz so I may need to tweak and make some changes so that it is more appealing to my visitors.

    This is a great way of building an email list if you’re looking to find a niche audience, as only those that are actually interested in the topic at hand are actually going to enter their email to get their results. Thanks for sharing such clear directions for those that haven’t done this before.

      It’s true! I don’t think a lot of bloggers are using quizzes to gain email subscribers right now either. If you sign up and make one send me the link!
